Citing Data

There is no one-size fits all way to cite datasets.

Data Citation Styles and Formats

However, you should include elements that will allow others to find the data. You may cite in a specific style such as APA, Chicago Manual of Style, or cite datasets based on specific data repository guidelines such as Dataverse, Figshare, or OSF.

DataCite recommends including the following information in your citation:
* Creator
* Publication year
* Title
* Publisher
* Stable identifier
* Version number and resource type, if available or applicable

For additional information on how to cite datasets, read Ball, A., & Duke, M. (2015). ‘How to Cite Datasets and Link to Publications’. DCC How-to Guides. Edinburgh: Digital Curation Centre. Available online: http://www.dcc.ac.uk/resources/how-guides
